I use a Mac Book Pro for Virtualization.

Though I HATE OS/X – VMWare Fusion runs just about everything and does it pretty well.

One of my devices is Windows XP

After running Windows Update, Windows XP got “stuck” shutting down.

Using the VMWare Fusion menus to try to force a shut down.

The solution was easy, but FINDING the solution was hard so I thought I’d blog it here.

Pull down the “Virtual Machine” meny

Fsion-ShutDown-Guest

Hold down the “Option Key”

Fusion-Power-Off

Now just choose “Power Down”

I’M NOW UP AND RUNNIG AGAIN !

Not to get all corporate on ya, but why not Virtual PC on a PC?

Because Virtial PC wilol not run Linux Distros built on the latest Linux Kernals and VPC lacks much needed USB suport.

I’d use Virtual PC (it’s free after all) – IF IT WORKED.

Ah! I see – I only use it with XP so I can test my app with IE6…

@Joe Why not VMWare on Windows in that case?

Cause then my Mac would be a paper weight :)

I have a Mac for cross-platform testing. I’m not an OS-X fan form many reasons but Fusion (which is made by VMWare but is not the same as the Windows Product) runs well, is EASY and performs well.

I "could" do it all on Windows – but I wouldn’t want to clog up my Windows box with Virtuam Machines that I only use for testing.

Plus, like I said, then my Mac would be a paper-weight :)
