Winston Churchill said – “Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried.”

This sums up by blog experience with GraffitiCMS.

As many of you have emailed me, my blog has been having problems for about a month.

The default install of GraffititCMS has just crumbled over the increased traffic. It does down and my server needs to be rebooted (restarting IIS doesn’t always fix the issues.)

Files get locked and my server needs to be rebooted.

The stats tables get screwed up and my server needs to be rebooted.

I try to do comments admin and my server needs to be rebooted.

I’ve used DasBlog and BlogEngine.net and they are both super, but the versions I used did not support a true "database” which I desire. (BEN Now Supports a database provider model)

I used .Text but quit when Telligent pulled it into Community Server. .Text forked to become Subtext, which is super, but I couldn’t find themes I liked. Also, I worried a little about the future of Subtext since Phil is SOOOO busy at Microsoft. (He seems to be keeping up !)

I might have used Community Server but Rob Howard (Telligent) advised me against it as the next version really won’t be “single user friendly”.

I prototypes a migration from GraffitiCMS to WordPress. It sort of worked, GraffitiCMS seesm to have allowed some crap to slip though in my comments so I’d have to write a bunch of filtering to get it to really work, plus, I really want my blog to be extensible in ASP.NET and MySQL PHP driver performance on Windows is not good (WordPress does not support other databases out of the box.)

So, I found Al’s post here and  I migrated my Database for GraffitiCMS from VistaDB to SQL Server (Express).

Speed for complex tasks like comments admin has more then doubled and some of the things that were just plain broken seem fixed.

PLEASE email me if you see any anomalies etc. with my blog.

Joe, why not run WordPress on your W2K8 server? I have been using WP 2.8.4 on MS W2K8 server and it works great! There are also tons of free themes and plugins too.

I feel your pain. I have wanted to start a blog for years but I need to integrate it into my asp.net real estate website, not have it a separate blog. So I keep waiting for a decent asp.net blog to be created and it never happens. I think I am going to go wordpress with a sql server backend and then just use asp.net to tap the database and show on my website but that is going to be fun to maintain over time. I wish microsoft would take this challenge on -like buying graffeti cms and making it microsoft quality. Many of us are not price sensative, we just want a good asp.net blog.. Sorry to ramble!

Besides which, WordPress is a bit bloated. (IMO)

Have you taken a look at using umbraco as your CMS? http://www.umbraco.org. I started using umbraco after having similar issues to what you were encountering.

I’ve done a few websites using their product and it’s been pretty painless.

For just a single-user BLOG, have you ever looked at http://www.kentico.com? They offer a free version that includes one blog. I use it for my web site and it is very good, and also extensible using ASP.NET. It is very easy to skin, has lots of built-in controls and templates, but not open-source though if that is important to you.

I recommend using SiteFinity. It is very well supported and has a free community edition. It also included many modules out of the box including blog.

Joe – just build a web site – thats what i’m going to do, – blogs are great for getting started – but they all soon become a pain in the neck when you want to add features!

Yeah it sucks that we don’t seem to have a definitive solution for this.

Will keep an eye on your posts until you come up with a winner… at the moment my blog is temporarily powered by Blogger.com but that’s just somewhere I can post to until I get a proper site up and running.

Unfortunately I’m having sound doubts on Telligent’s future support of GraffitiCMS as I posted below:

Have you looked at Oxcite? It seems to have alot of potential
